SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ – The Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), has strengthened digital and data-driven livestock management systems through a training series on dairy herd technologies held at its National Headquarters in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.
This two-week training, titled “1st Local Training Series on Enhancing Carabao Smallholder Farm Productivity through the Establishment of the National Dairy Herd System in the Philippines,” comprised lectures and field exercises that integrated digital theory with practical on-farm applications.
In a statement, PCC said 30 livestock technicians and regional specialists gained practical knowledge and skills in using the National Dairy Herd Improvement System and the digital iHealth application during the initial phase.
This allows them to transition from traditional farm record-keeping to a more efficient, data-driven management system.
PCC Deputy Executive Director Edwin Atabay told regional center representatives during the opening ceremony that field data must be analyzed—not merely collected—otherwise it becomes wasted material.
He also stressed that animal health and proper nutrition are essential for improved livestock reproduction and productivity.
In the succeeding phase, 50 additional regional personnel, artificial insemination technicians, and reproductive specialists underwent intensive field exercises.
Advanced reproductive technologies and precision feeding frameworks formed the center of the program’s final phase.
The digital iFeed system was also utilized to boost carabao productivity and assist smallholder dairy farmers across the country.
The initiative supports the government’s efforts to modernize the agriculture sector through technology-driven approaches under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
