NAMPICUAN, Nueva Ecija (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) trained selected Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries in Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija on sustainable food production technologies to boost local livelihood and food security.
The DOST–Provincial Science and Technology Office (DOST-PSTO) Nueva Ecija conducted a training on aquaponics and hydroponics technologies, providing participants with practical knowledge and skills in climate-resilient food production systems.
The initiative aligns with the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in promoting food security, agricultural modernization, and inclusive economic growth through science, technology, and innovation.
Dr. Christopher Pascual of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering of Central Luzon State University served as the resource person during the training.
He discussed the principles, benefits, and applications of aquaponics and hydroponics, highlighting their potential to produce crops efficiently even in limited spaces while reducing water consumption.
Through lectures and interactive discussions, participants learned modern agricultural practices that can supplement household food requirements and serve as alternative sources of income.
The training also introduced beneficiaries to the establishment, operation, and maintenance of aquaponics and hydroponics systems, enabling them to explore sustainable livelihood opportunities amid the challenges posed by climate change.
DOST Nueva Ecija said the activity forms part of its continuing efforts to bring science-based solutions closer to communities, by providing access to appropriate technologies that improve productivity and quality of life.
By empowering 4Ps beneficiaries with innovative agricultural knowledge and skills, the agency aims to help build more resilient households, strengthen local food production, and contribute to the country’s broader agenda of ensuring food sufficiency and inclusive development.
