Soldiers plant trees on ‘National Day for Youth in Climate Action’

FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija– Soldiers of 54th Infantry Battalion (54IB), under operational control of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID), Philippine Army (PA) together with policemen, local government employees and students planted trees as part of the commemoration of ‘National Day for Youth in Climate Action’ held at Lamut Eco-Park, Lamut, Ifugao last November 25, 2022.

The said environmental protection and preservation measure was spearheaded by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Ifugao province in partnership with 54IB, Philippine National Police-Ifugao and local schools.

A total of 250 Narra seedlings, 250 Molave seedlings and 10 Coconut seedlings were planted in line with Ifugao Provincial Executive Order No. 46 and National Greening Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources with the goal of rehabilitating denuded forests as part of the massive forest restoration effort of the government.

Lt. Col. Emmanuel Diasen Jr., Commander of 54IB thanked the student-participants in joining the cause to protect mother nature. “I commend everyone, especially the youth of Ifugao in joining us in our advocacy to prevent global warming through this kind of activity,” Lt. Col. Diasen Jr. said.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Andrew D. Costelo, Commander of 7ID extended his utmost appreciation to the initiative of the LGU of Ifugao province, soldiers, police and students in protecting mother nature and encouraged the local community to take actions in preserving the environment.
