In observance of the Road Safety Month, the NLEX Corporation will organize a slew of activities and events to further reinforce its road safety messages to its stakeholders.
Under its Mission Road Safety campaign, the month-long awareness drive entails road safety seminars for various groups, a road safety caravan at the rest and refuel stations, a fun run for employees, and a kiddie boot camp for select students.
“We recognize our duty of making a difference by implementing a comprehensive education campaign that would draw our target participants in understanding road safety and influencing them to be responsible road users. Because we take this duty to heart, we are optimistic that our safety campaigns will produce long term and sustainable impact to the customers and communities we serve,” said NLEX Corporation President and General Manager J. Luigi L. Bautista.
In the first quarter of 2023, the tollway company’s road safety education initiatives have benefitted 2,200 individuals including motorists, residents of host communities, employees, partners, and even children.
These events and activities include the conduct of seminars for stakeholders focused on safe driving, vehicle preventive maintenance, proper expressway driving, and expressway rules and regulations. Other groups such as kids are engaged through educational workshops and interactive games that teach them to develop a habit of practicing safety, positive attitude towards safety of others, and being responsible citizens and future drivers.
Seminars such as Usapang Driver for transport organizations and Kaligtasan sa Daan (KalSaDa) for host communities and schools are being held all-year-round to promote road safety awareness among NLEX, SCTEX, and NLEX Connector stakeholders. NLEX employees have been also made aware of road safety through various internal communication materials and workshops.
In partnership with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), NLEX offers its employees a theoretical driving course to help them learn the fundamentals on driving a vehicle. Outsourced partners will also be given road safety sessions.
NLEX teams will go around the rest and refuel areas along the expressway for a caravan that features road safety booth competition, engaging activities, and distribution of road safety communication materials. NLEX employees will also hold a fun run in Bulacan aimed at promoting sustainability and road safety.
Students in select areas will also get to join the NLEX Kiddie Patrol Day which will feature exciting activities for kids such as road sign making, coloring activity, driving simulation game, and a road safety workshop. Participants of this event will have the chance to meet the costumed characters of the animated preschool series PAW Patrol produced by Spin Master Entertainment and airing on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.
In all its safety initiatives, the tollway company is guided by the principles of engineering, enforcement, and education as well as the United Nations’ road safety pillars that include safer roads, safer vehicles, and safer road users. It seeks to highlight safety as a shared responsibility, reminding everyone that while NLEX enforces traffic laws and maintains good road conditions, it is equally important to practice safety awareness and responsiveness to reduce untoward incidents.
In 2021, NLEX Corporation became the first and only tollway company in the country to be certified for ISO 39001:2012 Road Traffic Safety Management System (RTSMS). It has been putting safety as one of its customer value propositions, striving to continuously improve its infrastructure and promote safe operations for the benefit of the public.
NLEX Corporation is a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the toll road arm of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC).
