Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has fulfilled his pledge to the city’s educators by distributing smart TVs and 982 HP laptops to kindergarten and Grade 1 teachers across all six congressional districts.
Executed at the San Andres Sports Complex, this initiative honors a commitment made during his 2025 State of the City Address. The gesture reflects his personal journey from Tondo to the leadership of the capital, underscoring his dedication to enhancing the city’s educational infrastructure. Speaking in Tagalog, the mayor thanked his teachers for shaping his character: “Kung hindi kayo nagtiyaga, mga teacher ng kinder at grade one, sa kakulitan ko noon, malamang hindi ako mayor ngayon.” As a product of the public education system, he views the “One Laptop, One TV, One Classroom” program as a way to honor those who invested in students like him decades ago.
This initiative transcends the provision of technology; it honors the foundation of our nation—the teachers who remain dedicated to every child. Mayor Isko recognizes that investing in educators is an investment in Manila’s future, demonstrating that effective governance involves empowering those who uplift our youth.
Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! I am impressed by the Mayor’s management of the City of Manila; he is a strict disciplinarian who cares deeply for his constituents. As a native of Santa Mesa, I was raised a true Manilenyo, though I later made Bulacan my home after marrying my wife from Pandi. When asked whether I identify as a Bulakenyo or a Manilenyo, I consider myself both. Seeing Mayor Isko fulfill his promises fills me with pride for the city I call home. Growing up, we envisioned a Manila where public schools possessed the resources necessary to nurture young minds; through his efforts, that vision is becoming a reality.
