The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Regional Office III begins its Christmas celebration today with a Parol Making Contest, where divisions, including the Office of the Regional Director, compete to showcase “Paskong Pinoy”-inspired designs.
DPWH Region III Director Roseller Tolentino, accompanied by the Division Chiefs, visited the office gymnasium, where employees are crafting Christmas lanterns as part of the agency’s efforts to observe the holiday season in a meaningful yet modest way.
In line with the Office of the President’s call for simpler Christmas celebrations, Tolentino emphasized that the agency’s “Paskong Pinoy” activities, including the lantern-making competition and an upcoming outreach program, aim to foster a festive yet humble atmosphere among employees.
Each division is tasked with decorating a 1.2 x 1.2-meter lantern frame to capture the spirit of a traditional Filipino Christmas, with participants allowed to source the frame from local parol makers, provided the decorations primarily use recycled materials and include a stand for display.
Tolentino further inspected the ongoing upgrades to the DPWH gymnasium and its adjacent structures, as well as the construction of the new Regional Office building, with the lower floors designated for the office’s operations and the upper three floors allocated to the Central Office’s Management Committee in case of emergencies affecting Manila, slated for completion by the end of 2025.
