CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 3 announced that the P95.72 million road and drainage improvements along the 1.785 km section of Daang Maharlika in Barangay Castellano, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija has already completed.
DPWH said on Tuesday in their social media post that it is funded under the 2021 national budget, the network development project includes the concreting and asphalting of road shoulders with a total width of 1.70 meters on each side to fully maximize the use of the existing road and to cater the slow-moving vehicles and at the same time accommodate large volume of traffic.
It was learned that drainage canal, sidewalk, and combined curb and gutter were also built to maintain the safety of motorists traveling on the said road network.
Nueva Ecija District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad said
in his report to DPWH regional director Roseller Tolentino that their office used High Density Polyethylene Pipe, a strong and high impermeable drainage pipe with 1000 mm diameter that can ensure the proper flow of water in times of heavy rainfall.
“With the new drainage system in place, we are expecting that flooding problems in Brgy. Castellano will be mitigated,” said Trinidad.
He added that the drainage structure was also designed to convey excess water to a larger drainage system such as the Peñaranda River and prevent the stagnation of water in the carriageway.
“Saturated pavements affect road performance and often result in its rapid deterioration, causing road accidents and discomfort to public motorists and commuters,” Trinidad added.
It was learned that the DPWH’s annual average daily traffic counts, a total of 22,546 vehicles passed through the Brgy. Castellano section of Daang Maharlika in 2020 making it one of the busiest road networks, hence, its development is important in increasing the efficiency of road transportation in the province.
The improvement of the said project has 300 calendar days project duration time that started on June 8, 2021.
