AC gov’t honors Kapampangan World War II hero Jose Abad Santos

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr., on May 7, 2024, led wreath-laying rites, as the city government celebrates the heroism of former Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos.

Lazatin was joined by Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, City Councilora Marino Bañola and Alex Indiongco, Liga ng mga Barangay President Danilo Nacu, Sto. Rosario Barangay Captain Renato Cosme, Angeles City Tourism Officer-in-Charge Anneleen Antonio-Sugui, Kuliat Foundation Inc. President Lincoln Baluyut, Arts and Culture Adviser Carmen McTavish, WB Ericson Montes,  Darwin Reyes and members (District Deputy Grand Master and Worshipful Master, Jose Abad Santos Memorial Lodge No. 333). 

Republic Act No. 8815 declares May 7 as Jose Abad Santos Day, a special non-working  holiday in Pampanga and Angeles City.

Born on February 19, 1886, Abad Santos was a native of San Fernando, Pampanga.

He served as an Associate Justice for almost a decade, before being appointed as the fifth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and acting Secretary of Finance, Agriculture, and Commerce in 1941.
