At Least 61 frontliners from Angeles City were recognized by Mayor Carmelo Lazatin during celebration of the Day of Valor and Veteran’s Week on Friday.
ANGELES CITY — Some 61 medical frontliners from the city have been recognized by the Angeles City Government under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. on April 9, 2022 in celebration of the Day of Valor and Veterans’ Week.

With the theme, “Kagitingan ng mga Beterano, Inspirasyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino,” this is to give commendation to the modern heroes who have selflessly devoted their lives, time, and effort to serving the city even amidst the pandemic.

Lazatin expressed how he would not be able to face the pandemic without the help of the frontliners.

“Hindi ko po kakayanin mag-isa ang pagharap sa pandemya. Kundi po dahil sa inyong lahat, hindi natin malalabanan ang pagsubok na dala ng pandemyang COVID-19,” he said during his speech.

Among those 61 frontliners awarded were: Dr. Froilan Canlas, Chief of the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC); Dr. Verona Guevarra, City Health Officer; Dr. Christine Joy Savellano, Rural Health Physician; Evelinda Mariano, CHO Nurse Supervisor; Rodolfo Simeon, Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Head; Edna Duaso, City Social and Development Officer; Engr. Donato Dizon, City Engineer; Philip Samson, Angeles City Public Cemetery Officer-in-Charge; and the city’s 53 nurses and midwives in the health centers.

The nurses and midwives have been a great part in monitoring reported patients at the grassroots level.

At one point, Lazatin underscored the city’s partnership with the Hotels and Restaurants Association in Pampanga (HARP) in assisting the city amid the pandemic, being designated as quarantine facilities.

Lazatin also claimed that he would continue to push through with the ongoing programs for the benefit of the health workers and frontliners.

“Makakaasa po kayo na ang mga nasimulan nating programa para sa pagsusulong ng mga benepisyo na tumutugon sa pangangailangan ng mga health workers at medical frontliners natin ay magpapatuloy, at pagtitibayin pa,” he furthered.

The certificate-giving ceremony conducted in the Angeles City Hall lobby, was also graced by Vice Mayor Vicenta “Vicky” Vega-Cabigting, Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, and Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office Head Irish Bonus-Llego.

The Araw ng Kagitingan or the Day of Valor was proclaimed through  Memorandum Circular No. 2022-0039 pursuant to Executive Order No. 203, series of 1987.

Moreover, the period of April 5 to 11 is declared as the Philippine Veteran’s Week through Presidential Proclamation No. 466 series of 1989.
