CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — The Department of Health (DOH) Central Luzon Center for Health Development (CLCHD) continues to strengthen mental health services by expanding training programs for health workers and improving access to treatment and medicines.

DOH CLCHD Regional Director Corazon Flores said the agency implements the Mental Health Gap Action Program, which equips doctors, nurses, and health personnel in rural health units with skills to identify, assess, and manage common mental health conditions.
Through this training, frontline health workers are better prepared to provide initial care and appropriate referrals for patients needing further evaluation and treatment.
“Layunin ng ating training program na mapalakas ang kakayahan ng mga health workers sa pagbibigay ng tamang serbisyo para sa mga may mental health concerns,” Flores said.
DOH also ensures the availability of mental health medicines in selected health centers, allowing patients to access treatment closer to their communities at lower or no cost.
This is part of efforts to integrate mental health into primary healthcare services and reduce stigma surrounding mental health conditions.
Specialized care and referral services are also available in DOH hospitals across the region for patients requiring advanced treatment.
Flores stressed that mental health is a vital component of overall well-being and should be given equal importance as physical health.
“Mahalaga ang mental health dahil bahagi ito ng kabuuang kalusugan ng isang tao,” she noted.
DOH continues to encourage the public to prioritize mental wellness through stress management, healthy relationships, adequate rest, and seeking professional help when needed.
These efforts are anchored on President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s commitment to a more inclusive and responsive healthcare system for all Filipinos.
