Remarkable arts and crafts, as well as songs written by persons deprived of liberty (PDL), were the main highlights of this year’s 1st regional “BIDA” Painting, Handicraft Making, and Songwriting Challenge.
Held at SM City Marilao on May 30, the event was participated by the 37 jail units of BJMP in Central Luzon.
Spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region III and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region III, in partnership with SM City Marilao, the event served as a platform to showcase the artistry, craftsmanship, and talents of PDL.
Anchored on the anti-drug campaign dubbed as BIDA, or “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan,” the competition aims to reform PDL, especially those involved in drug use, while providing them with opportunities to showcase their creativity and skills while in confinement.
The top three winning entries per category will participate in the National “BIDA” Painting, Handicraft Making, and Songwriting Challenge, while proceeds of the competition shall be directly given to the immediate family of the PDL.
