702nd Brigade Treks to Remote Village, Conducts Outreach Program and Tree Planting 

FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija – Driven by its sworn duty to serve the less fortunate, the 702nd Infantry (Defender) Brigade, 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army celebrates its 34th Founding Anniversary through the conduct of an outreach program in Sitio Linggawa, Barangay Pidpid, Sta Cruz, Ilocos Sur on September 20, 2022.

The Brigade together with the troops of the 71st Infantry (Kaugnay) Battalion with the support from Kiwanis Club of Davao City, the doctors, and nurses of Ilocos Sur District Hospitals of Tagudin, Sta Lucia, and Sta Cruz, and the Municipal Police Office of Sta Cruz successfully rendered 25 haircuts, 16 circumcisions, 29 dental and 40 medical check-ups, and 5 covid-19 booster shots services to the residents of the barangay.

200 Narra seedlings were also planted by the troops and community as part of the environmental protection initiatives to sustain the watershed.

Mr Walter Juldo, the Barangay Chairman, warmly welcomed the “Defenders of the North.” He expressed his gratitude to the soldiers and their partners for the continuous peace effort in Barangay Pidpid which was a former Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) base.

In his statement, Brigadier General Krishnamurti A Mortela, Commander of 702nd Bde reiterates that the unit is not only dedicated to ending local armed-conflict but also committed to promote the welfare of the local community.

Meanwhile, Major General Andrew D Costelo, Commander of 7ID emphasizes the importance of promoting civic welfare to prevent the CTGs from taking advantage in the isolated areas.
