CITY OF MALOLOS – A total of 4,232 Barangay Health Workers (BHW) from all over the province received their P4,000 quarterly allowance from the Provincial Government of Bulacan during the two-day BHW Assembly for the 2nd Quarter held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city last July 2-3.
Governor Daniel R. Fernando proudly shared that Bulacan played a significant role in crafting the Magna Carta for Barangay Health Workers, citing the invaluable contributions of former Provincial Health Office-Public Health (PHO-PH) Head Dr. Edwin P. Tecson and Provincial BHW Manager Patricia Alvaro-Castro, who both served as members of the Technical Working Group of the Senate Committee on Health and Demographics that drafted the landmark bill.
“Kung talagang nais nating palakasin ang BHW sa bawat barangay ay panahon na para pagtuunan naman ng lokal at nasyonal na pamahalaan ang kapakanan at benepisyo ng ating mga BHW o ang ating mga Bayaning Hanggang Wakas,” the governor said.
Aside from their allowance, the assembly also served as an avenue to strengthen their knowledge through discussion on the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity Campaign, Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) Surveillance, Community-based Surveillance, and Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment, reinforcing their crucial role in disease prevention, health promotion, and early detection of illnesses within their respective barangays.
Also, the PHO-PH recognized the Outstanding Monthly Major Accomplishment Report (MMAR) per individual, barangays, cities, and municipalities.
Moreover, the public health office laid their future plans for the BHWs including the provision of Barangay Health Service NC II TESDA training course through the Provincial Public Employment Service Office; Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity social mobilization activities; proposal of additional incentives for BHW presidents; and establishment of city and municipal BHW Registration, Accreditation, and Dismissal Committee (RADC), which will act as grievance committee for BHWs with cases and complaints.
