More than 1,200 bamboo culms were planted in a joint bamboo planting activity led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local stakeholders in the protected landscape of Brgy. Dibaraybay, Dinalungan, Aurora.
In celebration of Philippine Bamboo Month, the DENR community office in Casiguran, Aurora, led the planting of bamboo culms at the National Greening Program (NGP) site within the Talaytay Protected Landscape (TPL).
DENR community head Ariel Mendoza said the activity aimed to promote bamboo propagation, environmental conservation, and forest restoration within the TPL.
βWe, at the DENR, promote bamboo propagation through our NGP because of the ability of bamboo to restore degraded lands, absorb a large amount of carbon dioxide, and prevent soil erosion, which undeniably can be experienced by most provinces here in Region 3,β Mendoza remarked.
The activity was attended by over 85 representatives from the barangay local government of Dibaraybay, Talaytay Protected Landscape Occupants Association, Incorporated, Bantay Kalikasan ng Dinalungan Aurora Incorporated, and the municipal environment office of Casiguran, Aurora.
