Manalo brothers to file motion for Palparan acquittal

Raymond Manalo, with his lawyers from the National Union of People’s Lawyers, will file a motion for reconsideration on the acquittal of retired Gen. Jovito Palparan of charges of kidnapping with serious illegal detention with serious physical injuries.

On October 6, Malolos RTC Branch 19 Judge Francisco Felizmenio acquitted Palparan in the case filed by farmer-brothers Raymond and Reynaldo Manalo in 2016. Five other state agents were charged in the said case.

Karapatan has condemned the acquittal of Palparan, completely junking the truthful and consistent accounts of the Manalo brothers, which have been affirmed a number of times by the courts, including the Supreme Court.

The Manalo brothers were abducted in 2007, but managed to escape to tell their story. Their testimony as witnesses led to Palparan’s conviction in 2018 for kidnapping with serious illegal detention in the abduction and disappearance of UP students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeño.
