Lazatin, DICT sign MOA for digital transformation hub

ANGELES CITY — The city government under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. established a digital transformation center in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

This is through the Memorandum of Agreement signed by Mayor Lazatin with DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy and Regional Director Antonio Edward Padre at the Angeles City Library and Information Center on May 29, 2024.

In the said MOA, the city government implemented a Technology Empowerment for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development project, also known as Tech4ED.

The DICT has donated an equipment package consisting of 11 computers for the project, and provides access from the platform of DICT.

According to the MOA, Angeles City is “qualified to establish” the Tech4ED.

The Tech4ED aims to “harness ICT to bridge the digital divide and alleviate poverty in the unserved and undeserved communities in the Philippines.”

Mayor Lazatin thanked the DICT for supporting the city government in implementing the project.

“Makakaasa po kayo na iingatan po namin ang inyong mga binigay na equipment, na tiyak pong malaking tulong para sa aking mga kababayan,” Lazatin said.

Present during the MOA signing are City Librarian Erma Manalo, and Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer Irish Bonus-Llego.

To recall, the city government had renovated its city library last March with its first-class facilities.

To date, the city library houses roughly 7,000 books.

The city library also has a newly-established children’s section and it offers a free high speed internet connection to students, researchers, and visitors.
