Public Works and Highways Bulacan 2nd District Engineer George Santos and Bulacan 6th District Representative Salvador Pleyto led the formal groundbreaking for the construction of a flood control project along the Calumpang Section of the Angat River in Norzagaray, Bulacan.
In his message, Pleyto expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and other key officials of the national government for giving priority and assisting them in the implementation of the said project.
“Mahigit sampung taon na ang nakakalipas, Hunyo 2011 nang magsimulang gumuho ang lupa dulot ng walang tigil na ulan sa lugar ng Calumpang, Poblacion, Norzagaray, Bulacan, ang insidente na ito ay nagdulot ng takot at pangamba sa mga mamamayan na naninirahan dito lalo na tuwing sasapit ang panahon ng tag-ulan,” Pleyto enthused.
Pleyto, who is currently serving his first term as the representative of the province’s 6th District, also said that with the help of various national government agencies, residents’ long-standing fears will be alleviated now that the construction of this flood protection structure is set to begin.
Meanwhile, District Engineer Santos explained that frequent incidents of flooding and riverbank failure have been observed in the area and this has prompted the DPWH to continue the construction of flood protection structures that will help to prevent the river from overflowing.
“This project is vital to residents, especially those living near waterways, as it will help protect them from the risk of flooding,” Santos said.
The P57-million project funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act includes the construction of a 286-lineal meter slope protection structure and is expected to be completed by October 2023.
Santos and the project contractor expressed their commitment to fast track the implementation of the project to ensure its timely completion.
