ORANI, Bataan — About 100 Bataeño youth joined the two-day youth camp on disaster resiliency of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The activity, dubbed as “Wemboree: Changing the Mindset from Me to We”, aims to cascade necessary information on disaster risk reduction in the grassroots level.

DILG Provincial Director Belina Herma stressed the role of the youth in the planning and decision-making processes in their respective organizations and localities.

“Disasters happen when you don’t expect it to happen. That is why we don’t just respond to disasters, we should also prepare for them,” she said.

Herman also encouraged participants to impart learnings they gained from the activity in order to help raise more leaders and champions in nation-building.

The Wemboree was co-organized by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Bataan Youth Development Office and Sangguniang Kabataan Provincial Federation of Bataan.

PDRRMO provided a session on hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation, appropriate actions during an earthquake, and stress debriefing procedures through simulation drills.

There were also discussions on social media etiquette, cyber security, and the Philippine Youth Development Plan.
