DENR donates 5K fruit-bearing seedlings in Bulacan

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 3 Office has donated 5,000 fruit-bearing seedlings to the City Government of Malolos recently to boost local efforts on expanding urban green spaces, enhancing biodiversity, and building climate-resilient communities.

The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Guiguinto led the donation, during a tree-planting and seedling distribution activity at Mambog Ecopark last June 10, 2026.

Composed of 2,000 calamansi, 1,000 guyabano, 1,000 durian, and 1,000 rambutan seedlings, the planting materials will be distributed to barangays, schools, civic organizations, and community groups throughout the City of Malolos to support ongoing greening initiatives and environmental programs.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo said the initiative highlights the agency’s commitment to translating environmental advocacy into concrete actions that directly benefit communities.

“Tree planting is not simply about increasing the number of trees in our landscapes. It is about investing in healthier communities, restoring ecological balance, and strengthening our resilience against the impacts of climate change. Through the donation of these seedlings, we hope to empower more communities to become active stewards of the environment and partners in building a greener future,” Pablo said.

He emphasized that urban greening initiatives play a crucial role in improving environmental quality in rapidly developing areas by helping reduce heat buildup, improve air quality, support wildlife habitats, and enhance the overall well-being of residents.

Malolos City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Amiel Cruz noted that the donated seedlings will help address the increasing demand for planting materials from communities seeking to establish mini-forests, community gardens, and other greening projects.

Aside from the seedling turnover, participants from Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office, Bulacan State University, Barangay Mambog, Malolos River Rangers, and other partner organizations planted 100 assorted fruit-bearing trees within Mambog Ecopark, further contributing to the enhancement of the area’s biodiversity and ecological value.
