CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) has announced winners of the 2022 Gawad Kalasag (GK) Special Awards for Local Government Emergency Management and Response Team (GEMs) and Volunteer Organizations involved in Emergency Response.
Palayan City Rescue Team topped the GEMs category while Sasmuan Radio Assistance and Rescue Group (SARAG) Inc. placed first in the Volunteer Organization search.
RDRRMC Chairperson and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Cesar Idio said the two groups will be Central Luzon’s bets in the national competition.
San Fernando Rescue Unit and Tarlac City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office placed second and third, respectively, in the GEMS category.
“GK seeks to recognize various stakeholders that design and implement DRRM programs to protect and shield high-risk communities against hazards and render them more capable of addressing their vulnerabilities and coping from disaster,” he said.
Winners were chosen by the Regional Selection Committee consisting of representatives from OCD, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Red Cross, Army 703rd Brigade, Philippine National Police, and Philippine Information Agency.
