BALANGA CITY (PIA) — Two local bakeries in Bataan will improve production operations and lower costs by adopting solar technology under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).

Five Brother’s Bakery of Bagac and Rock N’ Rolls Bakery of Balanga City formalized their partnership with DOST Central Luzon through its Bataan Provincial Science and Technology Office through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).

The initiative allows the bakeries to integrate solar technology in daily operations, promoting greener practices, reducing reliance on conventional electricity, and minimizing environmental impact.

For the beneficiaries, the assistance brings concrete benefits to their businesses.

Five Brother’s Bakery General Manager Emelie D. Carreon said the assistance will ensure continuous production and help grow the business.

Rock N’ Rolls Bakery General Manager Gabriel Nisay III added that savings from lower electricity costs can be reinvested in other areas of operations.

Both expressed appreciation for DOST’s guidance from the application process to the MOA signing.

DOST Bataan Provincial Science and Technology Director Catalina V. De Leon-Cruz said the program supports MSMEs in strengthening competitiveness and achieving sustainable growth.

“Support like what was provided to Rock N’ Rolls Bakery and Five Brother’s Bakery helps lower their operational costs and improves their day-to-day operations. We will continue to guide and support these businesses so they can take advantage of more opportunities to grow,” she said.

SETUP reflects the national government’s effort to provide MSMEs with access to appropriate technologies that enhance productivity, efficiency, and sustainable business growth.
