DOT, BCDA activates collaborative effort to promote sports tourism in New Clark City

NEW CLARK CITY, Tarlac (PIA)  — The Department of Tourism (DOT) and Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) have joined forces to promote sports tourism in New Clark City, positioning it as a center for sports excellence and a home for Filipino athletes.

DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said New Clark City and its world-class sports facilities have strong potential to drive tourism activity, investments, and job creation.

“The areas under BCDA’s stewardship present opportunities for tourism growth. New 

Clark City, in particular, has demonstrated capacity to host major sporting events, and successfully so. With its modern sports facilities and integrated development, it is well positioned to strengthen the Philippines’ role in sports tourism,” she added.

Meanwhile, BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Joshua Bingcang emphasized that the partnership aligns with the vision of turning New Clark City into a center for sports excellence. 

“By promoting sports tourism together, we elevate New Clark City’s standing as a premier destination for training and competition while creating opportunities for local businesses, workers, and communities,” he furthered.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the DOT and BCDA, the two agencies will collaborate on the marketing and promotion of New Clark City’s sports facilities and events aimed to attract local and international sporting events. 

The agreement includes the development of strategic programs and tour packages that integrate local culture, heritage, and leisure activities into sports tourism initiatives.

It also seeks to stage events and activities to help boost tourism and  economic growth in the area. 

This initiative is aligned to the agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen the country’s international image through high-level, high-impact sporting events.
