BRIAN Poe Llamanzares, FPJ Panday Bayanihan Partylist first nominee, has issued a passionate call for Filipinos to prioritize local products and support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) during this holiday season, urging consumers to be mindful of the quality of imported goods and the growing threat of online scams.
“This Christmas, let’s make a conscious effort to shop local,” Poe said in a recent statement. “While imported goods may seem cheaper and offer more choices, we must be skeptical of their quality and consider the impact on our local economy.”
Poe highlighted the challenges faced by Filipino SMEs, who often struggle to compete with the influx of imported goods produced at lower costs.
“Supporting local businesses means investing in our own communities,” he explained. “It means creating jobs, supporting families, and building a stronger economy for everyone.”
He also expressed concern over the growing vulnerability of Filipinos to online scams, noting that many are easily impressed by advertisements and often fall prey to fraudulent calls and texts. “We can’t really blame Nikkei Asia for stating that the Philippines is becoming Asia’s epicenter for online shopping scams,” Poe said. “It’s a serious problem that requires our attention.”
Poe encouraged Filipinos to be more discerning consumers, researching products thoroughly and considering the quality and origin of goods before making a purchase. “Let’s be more mindful of where our money goes,” he urged. “By choosing local products, we are not only supporting our fellow Filipinos but also ensuring that we are getting quality goods that are made with care and attention to detail.”
Poe also emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses as a way to foster a sense of community and national pride. “When we shop local, we are investing in the future of our country,” he said. “We are supporting the dreams and aspirations of our fellow Filipinos.”
Poe’s call to “shop local” this holiday season serves as a timely reminder that every purchase has the power to make a difference. By choosing to support local businesses and prioritizing quality over price, Filipinos can not only find unique and high-quality gifts but also contribute to a stronger and more vibrant economy.
