DPWH conducts cleanup in Orani River

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Bataan 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) organized a coastal cleanup drive along Orani River in Barangay Tenejero, Orani, on September 25, 2024, in support of the 2024 International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day.

During the activity, district employees collected 26 sacks of garbage, including wrappers, bottles, sachets, and tree branches, significantly contributing to efforts to reduce water pollution and protect aquatic biodiversity.

“By participating in this global initiative, we aim to raise awareness among local communities about the importance of keeping our water bodies clean,” District Engineer Erlindo Flores, Jr. said.

Flores added that the substantial amount of collected waste highlights ongoing efforts to address the growing issue of water pollution and the need for continuous cleanup initiatives.

The ICC is the world’s largest volunteer initiative aimed at improving ocean health by removing debris, identifying pollution sources, and raising awareness about marine litter.
