IPINAG-UTOS ni Panglao Mayor Edgardo “Boy” Arcay sa lalawigan ng Bohol ang pagbabawal sa mga vendors na magtinda ng ano mang uri ng pagkain sa Virgin Island ‘effective immediately’ matapos ang pagbisita nito sa nasabing lugar nitong Martes, Agosto 2, 2022.
Ito ay makaraang madiskubre na ang mga ibinebenta ritong mga pagkain ay sobrang taas o napakamahal.
Ang derektiba ng alkalde ay bunsod sa kontrobersya na ipinost sa social media ng isang babae nitong Agosto 1, 2022 kaugnay sa isang grupo na nagbayad ng P26,100 sa pagkaing order ng mga ito na kinabibilangan ng Abalone na P2,500, Tinolang isda na P1,800, kinilaw’ng isda na P3,000, sinugba’ng isda na P2,500, scallops na P3,000, oyster (P3,000), squid (P2,500), lato (P800), baby squid (P1,500), sea urchin (P2,300), banana (P900), softdrinks (P1,300), at beer (P1,000).
Nag-viral ang nasabing post na umani ng ibat-inang reaksyon na halos mga negatibo mula sa mga netizens.
Pansamantalang inilagay ni Arcay ang mga vendors sa harap ng old municipal hall.
Sa pahayag naman ni Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco na ang nasabing overpricing- “is a matter that the Department of Tourism (DOT) takes seriously especially as it concerns the welfare of tourists whose continued support for our destinations is critical to the recovery of the tourism industry.”
Nakikipagtulungan na rin ang DOT sa mga local government units ng Bohol at Panglao para sa agarang imbestigasyon hinggil sa isyu.
Nakipag-ugnayan na rin ang DOT sa Department of Trade and Industry kung saan anila, “it is imperative that reasonable pricing standards are upheld for purposes of consumer protection.”
“Our regional office is also coordinating with the LGUs to provide guidance on standards for the provision of tourist goods and services, and we will extend trainings to the frontline tourism workers and stakeholders involved to safeguard the overall tourist experience in the Island,” wika nito.
Umapela rin si Garcia-Frasco sa publiko na tulungan ang turismo sa pamamagitan ng pakikipagtulungan sa pamahalaan.
“Tourism is a shared responsibility, and it is in helping each other along this period of recovery that we can fully enjoy the benefits that tourism brings,” aniya.
