A new 218.5-square-meter multipurpose building (MPB) turned over by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) to Marawa Elementary School (MES) in the town of Jaen is currently utilized as additional learning space to help address the shortage of classrooms.
According to District Engineer Robert Jay Panaligan, converting the multipurpose building into classroom space is crucial to accommodate the growing number of students and create an environment that supports their academic success and overall development.
“Now that we have converted it into a two-storey, four-classroom facility, elevated by 1 meter and equipped with comfort rooms, a PWD ramp, hand wash area, water tank, fire safety equipment, new blackboards, wall fans, storage rooms, and lighting fixtures, it is ready to accommodate students,” Panaligan added.
OIC-Assistant District Engineer Leonora Cruz also explained that the new structure replaced the old building, which was prone to ceiling leaks during rain, disrupting classes and affecting both students and teachers.
Meanwhile, MES Teacher Marivic Pangilinan expressed gratitude for the new building, noting that its spacious classrooms help students focus and engage more in their studies.
“Very thankful kami na biniyayaan ng ganitong pasilidad na talagang for the first time ever, 30 years of my teaching career, ngayon lang nagkaroon ng two-storey building sa Marawa Elementary School at bilang guro, yung grades niyo dito sa proyektong ito ay 100 plus,” Pangilinan shared.
The P14.8-million project was implemented under the agency’s Basic Infrastructure Program (BIP) and funded under the 2024 national budget.
