The Paranaque Lady Aces and the Glutagence Glow Boosters moved one win away from arranging a finals match-up after taking Game 1 of the Pia Cayetano WNBL Season 2021 semifinals at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center last Saturday.
The Lady Aces defeated the Quezon Lady Spartans, 98-56, while the Glow Boosters won over the Taguig Lady Generals, 62-53, to draw first blood in the best-of-three semifinal series.
Allana Lim led Paranaque with 21 points and seven rebounds as her team started the game with a 12-0 run and never looked back in winning Game 1.
Raiza Palmera-Dy had 20 points for Glutagence including key baskets in the fourth to stave off a rally by the Lady Generals in the series opener.
Paranaque and Glutagence can close out the series on Sunday at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center.
Marydyn Tingcang scored 17 points for the top-seed Lady Aces as they even took a 42-point lead in the contest against the fourth-seed Lady Spartans.
Khate Castillo scored 14 points but the third-ranked Glutagence saw its lead down to two points, 41-39, early in the fourth but Palmera-Dy took command and buried a crucial triple in a 7-0 run to protect the advantage.
Chicky Faraon led Quezon with 13 points and eight rebounds for the Lady SparTAN as they look to bounce back in Game 2.
Lorraine Capilit had 15 points for Taguig, whose gallant stand after coming back from a 19-point deficit fell short due to the heroics of Palmera-Dy.
