DPWH completes P72.38M flood control project in Bataan

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Bataan 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) has completed a 558.09-lineal-meter flood control project along the Mabiga River in Barangay Mabiga, Hermosa, with a total cost of P72.38 million.

District Engineer Erlindo R. Flores, Jr. explained that the project aims to protect farmlands and homes in Barangay Mabiga from flooding, particularly during the rainy season and typhoons.

“The Mabiga River, a tributary of the Colo River, often causes flooding in the area. This structure promises to provide enhanced safety and stability for the entire community, especially for local farmers who rely on agriculture,” Flores said.

Furthermore, the flood control project, part of a series of initiatives along the river, is essential for protecting the new access road under construction, ensuring its long-term viability and uninterrupted access during monsoon rains and typhoons.

“Once completed, the road will serve as a key route for the region, making the flood control structure crucial in safeguarding both the ongoing construction and stable access during heavy rains and typhoons,” Flores added.

Elevated six meters above the riverbed and built on a steel sheet pile foundation, the structure ensures long-term durability and effective flood damage prevention, with completion on October 31, 2024, as scheduled.
