THE National Basketball League-Pilipinas (NBL) begins the 2022 Chairman’s Cup this Sunday (October 2, 2022) with a doubleheader at the Bulacan Provincial Capitol Gymnasium in the City of Malolos, Bulacan.
The Las Piñas Oil Machine go up against the La Union PAOwer at 4 p.m., and the Taguig City Generals tangle with the Bulacan DF Republicans at 6 p.m. to open hostilities of the professional league for homegrown talents.
The Pampanga Delta, seeking for a fourth straight NBL crown, lead the nine teams that will compete for the Chairman’s Cup crown that will also see four new teams including Las Piñas Kings, Muntinlupa Constructicons, and Laguna Kings, all of which owned by the Aclan Group of Companies.
The Quezon City All-Stars will also play as a newcomer this conference which will hold a single round-robin eliminations before going to the playoff round.
Contenders in past tournaments, La Union and the CamSur Express are making their return to the league.
The PAOwer finished runners-up against the Delta in the 2020 President’s Cup and 2021 Chairman’s Cup, while the Express were one of the teams that joined the inaugural season in 2018 before taking a leave of absence in the middle of the pandemic.
With restrictions eased throughout the country, the league will revert back to its home-and-away format, with games will be aired live on Solar Sports, and NBL-Pilipinas Facebook, YouTube and Kumu platforms.
Before the start of the games, NBL-Pilipinas will pay tribute to the five Bulacan rescuers who passed away at the height of super typhoon Karding last week.
