Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. on September 18, 2024 received the Climate Hero Award from the Climate Change Commission, for his efforts and dedication to enhance climate resilience and sustainability in the city, during the awarding ceremony held at Marriott Hotel, Pasay City.
The Climate Change Commission recognized Lazatin’s steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and resilience-building efforts.
“Malaking pasasalamat po sa Climate Change Commission sa pagbibigay po sa akin ng ganitong pagkilala, asahan po ninyo na mas paiigtingin pa namin ang mga programang saklaw ng climate change,” Lazatin said.
Commissioner Albert Dela Cruz, Sr. mentioned Mayor Lazatin’s visionary leadership and commitment to sustainable urban development which garnered international acclaim, particularly with the city’s selection by UN Habitat as a partner in the Building Climate Resiliency through Urban Plans and Designs Project.
It has been a flagship program of Mayor Lazatin to push for environmental protection and preservation, especially with the massive reforestation of the Angeles City Watershed which to date has 100,969 trees planted.
This project is being supervised by his trusted Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel.
Moreso, the city government introduced the Walang Plastikan: Plastic Palit Bigas Project in 2021 to address environmental woes and to end hunger and malnutrition at the same time.
The Walang Plastikan: Plastic Palit Bigas Project was among the top 17 national finalists from 101 entries in the 2024 Walang Gutom Awards.
In a trailblazing move, the Angeles City Government led by Mayor Lazatin will soon install solar panels at the Belen Homesite Elementary School that will power airconditioners and smart TVs in eight classrooms.
Mayor Lazatin has planned to install solar panels in all public schools in the 33 barangays here starting off with the smallest learning institution – the Belen Homesite Elementary School – which has eight classrooms with 187 students.
Aside from these, the installation of 1,500 solar lights in all major and secondary roads in the city will also be finished by October 2024.
This is in line in promoting a sustainable and eco-friendly environment, as well as prioritizing the safety of the residents.
