KARAPATAN reiterates calls for Rodrigo Duterte’s disbarment, Sara Duterte’s impeachment

KARAPATAN reiterates our call for the disbarment of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, as we learned that the elder Duterte is among the legal counsels of his daughter Vice President Sara Duterte in the petition she recently filed blocking the impeachment complaint filed against her in Congress.

On January 17, 2025, kin of victims of human rights violations and human rights activists filed a disbarment complaint against Rodrigo Duterte for grave, wanton and multiple violations of the Canons in the Code of Professional Conduct and Accountability (CPRA).

Duterte undermines the integrity of the legal profession and he is unfit to be a lawyer. It is distressing that he continues his practice, and this time in the petition of his daughter at the Supreme Court. This is why the Court must act with expediency in resolving the disbarment complaint against Rodrigo Duterte.

We reiterate our call to the Senate to proceed with the impeachment trial of Sara Duterte. We are one with former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares in his letter pressing for a special session of the Senate to proceed with the impeachment and in fulfilling its obligation according to the Philippine Constitution.

We remain steadfast in our support for the people’s demand to hold the Dutertes accountable for human rights violations, corruption and other crimes, as we persist in exposing and opposing the Marcos Jr. administration’s accountability for the same high crimes against the Filipino people.
