DPWH Tarlac 1st DEO assesses damage to slope protection structures along Camiling River

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Tarlac 1st District Engineering Office (DEO), in coordination with the Provincial Government of Tarlac and the Local Government of Camiling, conducted a joint assessment on July 23, 2025, of damaged slope protection structures along portions of the Camiling River, which have caused flooding in nearby barangays and disrupted traffic flow in the area.

District Engineer Neil Farala identified Barangays Poblacion G, Poblacion H, and Cacamilingan Sur as among the areas affected by the flooding, along with road sections such as the Romulo Highway in Cacamilingan Sur and the Sawat–Bilad portion of the Paniqui–Camiling–Wawa Road.

As part of the joint inspection, Farala directed the District Maintenance Team to assess the affected sections of the riverwalls, which are historically prone to damage during heavy rains, to determine the extent and identify appropriate measures to prevent further erosion and reduce flooding risks.

“In response to the immediate situation, sandbagging activity was also conducted to block floodwaters triggered by the river’s overflow and prevent them from inundating homes and causing interruptions to the motoring public,” Farala said.

Residents were also advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions during heavy rainfall to ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, District Maintenance Engineer Renato Martinez stated that the extent and cost of the damaged infrastructure have yet to be determined.

Governor Christian Tell Yap, Vice Governor Estelita Aquino, and Mayor Joyce Agustin joined the inspection as part of the coordinated effort to address the flooding and monitor affected areas.
