DPWH, SBMA join forces to complete New Upper Binictican Bridge

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Bataan 1st District Engineering Office (DEO), in partnership with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), has completed the construction of the new Upper Binictican Bridge at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Olongapo City, Zambales.

During the inauguration and blessing ceremony on May 15, 2025, Assistant District Engineer Regina Agustin reported that the P44.09-million bridge spans 22.8 meters in length and 7.32 meters in width, and is constructed with a Reinforced Concrete Deck Girder (RCDG), reinforced concrete abutments, and a foundation system consisting of mat and spread footings—all designed to ensure long-term durability and accommodate modern traffic demands.

“On behalf of District Engineer John Paolo Tan, we express our deepest gratitude to everyone whose dedication and hard work made this project a success,” Agustin said.

Meanwhile, SBMA Deputy Administrator for Public Works and Technical Services Group (PWTSG) Marco Estabilo explained that the original bridge, built in the 1960s, had severely deteriorated by 2020, prompting a joint replacement effort with DPWH to address safety and transportation concerns.

The new bridge now improves connectivity and safety for local residents, including indigenous communities who rely on the route for daily travel, and features a 1.11-meter sidewalk to provide a safe and convenient space for pedestrians.
