The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Pampanga 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) conducted the “Gamit Pang-Eskwela, Handog ay Saya” event at Sto. Domingo Elementary School in Minalin on Monday, August 19, 2024.
DPWH Region 3 Office Regional Director Roseller Tolentino said, now in its 7th year, this initiative is a flagship program of the District Engineers League of the Philippines (DELP), aimed at assisting public school pupils nationwide.
During the event, approximately 100 less fortunate students from grades 1 to 6 received bags containing essential school supplies, distributed by Pampanga 1st DEO officials, exemplifying their commitment to supporting education and uplifting communities.
In his message, District Engineer Almer Miranda highlighted that education is a stepping stone to achieving goals and can bring about life-changing transformations that define one’s future, underscoring the importance of such support for students’ development.
Similarly, Human Resource and Administrative Section Caretaker Engr. Noel Canlas encouraged students to dream big, complete their studies, and give back to their families.
“As you grow older, life teaches you to be tough by adapting to your environment and remembering where you started. Education is the key to opportunity; every book and pen will prepare you for the real world, where respect, perseverance, and obedience are essential for success. Stay open to opportunities and seek guidance when needed,” Canlas said.
Meanwhile, Assistant District Engineer Alfie Lejarde expressed gratitude to the teachers and stakeholders of Sto. Domingo Elementary School for their dedication to educating children. “I also graduated from a public school in the small town of Sasmuan. Looking at you students reminds me of my own past. Once a grantee, I learned that ‘Sanay,’ ‘Mahusay,’ and ‘Tunay’—meaning experienced, skilled, and genuine—are key traits that will drive you toward your goals. Success will truly be within your reach,” he said.
District Maintenance Engineer Donald Sanchez delivered the closing remarks, emphasizing the initiative’s impact on education and community support, and noting that construction materials were also provided as part of the office’s support for the annual Brigada Eskwela.
Also present were Planning and Design Chief Arlette Guzman, Construction Chief Danny Canlas, Procurement Chief Neopolo Manaloto Jr., Finance Chief Anna Lorraine Tamayo, Quality Assurance Chief Mark Carlo Franco, and District Information Officer May Beltran.
