DPWH Undersecretary for Planning and Public-Private Partnership Services Maria Catalina E. Cabral

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) spearheaded the three (3)-day Build Better More (BBM) Infrastructure Forum hosted by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) at the National Government Administrative Center in New Clark City, Tarlac, showcasing significant advancements in infrastructure development under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The event, taking place from July 11-13, 2024, serves as a comprehensive platform to broaden the understanding of government communicators and media practitioners on the country’s infrastructure achievements and future plans.

DPWH kicked off the Day 1 Talk Series on July 11, 2024, with DPWH Undersecretary for Planning and Public-Private Partnership Services Maria Catalina E. Cabral representing Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan. She presented the Department’s infrastructure achievements, future plans and initiatives in reshaping the country’s infrastructure landscape toward sustainable development, emphasizing the event’s theme, “Continuing and Expanding the Golden Age of Infrastructure.”

These projects include extensive road networks, bridges, flood control measures, and urban development initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity, fostering economic growth, and improving the quality of life for Filipinos.

Of the 185 Infrastructure Flagship Projects (IFPs) under the BBM Infrastructure Program, which spans from 2022 to 2028, 74 are being implemented by DPWH.

Among these, three (3) projects are completed: the Samar Pacific Coastal Road Project, the Flood Risk Improvement and Management Project for Cagayan De Oro River, and the Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Measures in the Low-Lying Areas of Pampanga Bay Project. Additionally, 38 projects are ongoing, and 33 are in pre-construction stages.

Undersecretary Cabral also detailed several projects under the High Standard Highway Network Development plan, which includes constructing highways and expressways to connect strategic economic zones, tourism destinations, and production centers nationwide seamlessly.

DPWH is prioritizing the enhancement of the 3,082-kilometer Maharlika Highway (N1), the main transportation artery of the country.

The agency is also implementing projects under the Inter-Island Linkage Bridge Program to ensure seamless connectivity among the Philippines’ three major islands. Additionally, the Metro Manila Logistics Improvement Program, involving the construction and improvement of 11 bridges crossing the Pasig River, Marikina River, and Manggahan Floodway, and the Flood Control Management Program, targeting 18 major river basins and other critical areas vulnerable to flooding, are underway.

“The Philippines is on the brink of emerging as an economic powerhouse in Asia. By investing in these transformative infrastructure projects, we are not just building roads but also creating a pathway to a brighter, more prosperous future for every Filipino and bolstering a thriving, globally competitive tourism industry”, Undersecretary Cabral concluded.
