DPWH Bulacan’s completion of Flood Control Project in San Ildefonso secures brighter future

Barangay Upig in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, gains a renewed sense of security and assurance as the Department of Public Works and Highways – Bulacan Sub District Engineering Oce, led by District Engineer Ruben S. Santos, Jr., completes essential flood control structures along the Maasim River.

“This project is a game-changer for the community, addressing the prolonged fear among residents of the Maasim River overflowing its banks and destroying their homes and livelihoods, marking a crucial investment of P96.50-M by DPWH towards a more secure future for San Ildefonso.” Santos emphasized.

Assistant District Engineer Edgardo C. Pingol provided a breakdown of the project’s components, stating, “We constructed 248.8 lineal meters of flood mitigation structures, dredged the Maasim River to remove sediment buildup, and stabilized the riverbank with embankment activities, including the construction of an additional back wall to safeguard nearby structures from flood damage.”

The comprehensive flood control approach is anticipated to have a significant impact on the lives of San Ildefonso residents, with the project aimed at reducing flooding risks to protect homes, businesses, and the essential agricultural land around the Maasim River, ensuring food security for the region and contributing to the overall economic stability of San Ildefonso, as explained by Assistant District Engineer Pingol.
