CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has implemented various initiatives that promote food security and community cleanliness in barangays across Central Luzon.
During the 10th episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency, DILG Regional Director Anthony Nuyda said they launched the Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG) sa Barangay project in response to the country’s food security issues.
“This involves the establishment of community gardens where households can grow fruits and vegetables for their families and local enterprises,” he explained.
HAPAG sa Barangay has brought numerous benefits to villages in Central Luzon.
Over the past year, a total of 2,263 community gardens have been established across 722,421.5 square meters of land in the region.
Nuyda disclosed that these gardens have produced about 1,074,600 kilograms of fruits
and vegetables, generating an added income of P715,000 for various barangays in Central Luzon.
Moreover, DILG has also led the advocacy for community cleanliness under the Kalinisan para sa Bagong Pilipinas.
Nuyda underscored that through this program, village officials and residents were assigned to clean up every corner of their locality.
“In just five months, more than nine tons of waste were collected in Central Luzon,” he shared.
Nuyda emphasized the importance of providing fast services, addressing the needs of the people, and offering opportunities to everyone in Central Luzon.
These initiatives highlight DILG’s commitment to building resilient communities across the region.
