CITY OF MALOLOS – The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) has recognized the Provincial Agriculture Office of the Provincial Government of Bulacan as a partner in fisheries development during the Gawad Parangal sa mga Kabalikat sa Pangisdaan at the Luxent Hotel, Quezon City last September 19.
On behalf of Governor Daniel R. Fernando, PAO Head Ma. Gloria SF. Carrillo received the award which acknowledged the province’s significant contributions and strong partnership in advancing fisheries conservation and sustainable development programs.
Fernando expressed his gratitude for the recognition and stated that it is a testament not only to PGB, but also to the perseverance and dedication of Bulakenyo fisherfolks who tirelessly work to protect and sustain the province’s aquatic resources.
“Sa pamamagitan ng parangal na ito, lalo nating pagsisikapan na palakasin ang ating mga programa para sa ikabubuti ng ating pangisdaan, dahil naniniwala tayo na ang pag-unlad ng ating lalawigan ay nakasandal sa maayos na paggamit ng ating likas na yaman,” the governor said. (Through this award, we will strive even harder to strengthen our programs for the betterment of our fisheries, because we believe that the development of our province relies on the proper use of our natural resources.)
Meanwhile, BFAR National Director Elizer S. Salilig, in his keynote message delivered by Administrative Division Chief Mildred Buazon, said that progress happens when fisherfolks, local governments, academe, civil society, and media work together with a shared purpose.
“To the local government units, thank you for your leadership, guidance, and innovation. You have been vital in enforcing our laws, shaping sound policies, managing our waters, and providing research and solutions that make fisheries more resilient and sustainable,” Salilig said.
Concluding the 62nd Fish Conservation Week, the Gawad Parangal sa mga Kabalikat sa Pangisdaan is an annual recognition program of BFAR that honors institutions and local government units that have demonstrated exemplary support and partnership in the implementation of fisheries conservation and development initiatives across the country.
