Cayetano: We are the sum of our life decisions

“At the end of our life, we are the sum total of our decisions.”

This was how Senator Alan Peter Cayetano summarized the week’s topic on his daily vlog, CIA 365, on Facebook.

On Friday, February 28, 2025, Cayetano reflected on the key points discussed so far about decision making.

He highlighted effective decision making rooted in godly wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, which he said requires anchoring one’s identity in God, discerning priorities, and aligning goals with His guidance through planning.

“Kung sasabihin kong ako ay makabayan, y’ung decisions ko ba — tulad ng boto ko sa Senado, mga naging pagkilos ko sa Department of Foreign Affairs, ang araw araw na pagkilos ko — ito ba ay makabayan o hindi?… Decisions basically make us and are part of who we are,” he said.

On the role of purpose in decision making, he reminded his viewers that having a clear sense of direction allows individuals to make choices aligned with their values and aspirations.

“Knowledge, understanding, and wisdom — these all play a role in making good decisions,” he said. He encouraged followers to recognize their identity as children of God, saying it provides the confidence to navigate life’s challenges.

This, he explained, is akin to finding one’s position in God’s positioning system (GPS). “It’s very important that in making decisions, our first decision is to find out who we are. Sino ba tayo? At saan ka ba gusto ilagay ni Lord?” he said.

Cayetano also discussed how to make better decisions by understanding the difference between what is urgent and important.

“Kapag nalaman mo ang difference ng urgent at important sa decision making, mas madali gumawa ng priorities. Madali gumawa ng agenda, mag plano, at i-set ang goals,” he explained.

While decision-making can be challenging, Cayetano urged his followers to learn from others by sharing and discussing experiences with peers and elders.

“We make 35,000 decisions a day. Some are involuntary, easy, or hard. But we can learn from it by discussing, sharing and learning from our experiences. We can also be inspired by the young and listen to the wisdom of the older generation,” he explained.

“Parang kape lang iyan na kapag ihalo ang lahat, kapag tama ang timpla, masarap,” he added.

Cayetano continues to share life lessons based on Biblical insights on his daily Facebook vlog.
