Bulakenyos dedicate 60 minutes to show support in saving Mother Earth

CITY OF MALOLOS — To show support and commitment to saving Mother Earth from the devastating effects of climate change, residents and establishment owners across the province of Bulacan collectively joined this year’s Earth Hour 2025 last Saturday, March 22, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Bulacan Gov. Daniel R. Fernando expressed his support for the movement and emphasized the need of giving value to nature as it also gives life to the planet we live in.

Gov. Daniel Fernando

“Ang paglalaan po natin ng isang oras lang na pagpatay o hindi kaya ay pagbawas ng energy consumption sa ating mga tahanan at mga establisyimento, napakalaking bagay na nito para sa ating planeta para makahinga. Alagaan natin ito dahil ito rin ang nagbibigay-buhay sa mundong tinitirhan natin,” he said.

With the theme “Switch Off and Secure Water for All,” this global movement is annually organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), wherein everyone is encouraged to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to cut down the harmful effects of carbon footprint to the planet.

This year’s 60-minute devotion to help the planet breathe also coincides with the celebration of the World Water Day themed “Glacier Preservation,” which highlights the fundamental role of glaciers in preserving fresh water supply worldwide.

Moreover, the WWF Philippines underscored in its website that Earth Hour is more than just an hour but a movement to change the course of our future.

“While one hour may seem small, imagine the collective impact if each of us commits just one hour to fostering positive environmental change. Spending 60 minutes doing something positive for the planet can turn into thousands and millions of hours of action and awareness that there is still time to reverse nature loss by 2030,” they said.
