Bulacan dams rises, release excess water

CITY OF MALOLOS — Heavy rains induced by Typhoon Egay have increased the water elevations of Angat, Ipo and Bustos Dam’s on Thursday morning.
 
Josephine Salazar, regional director of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in Central Luzon, said the water elevations of Angat, Ipo and Bustos Dam’s as of 6:00 am on Thursday was at 182.98 meter, 100.77 meter  and 17.17 meter respectively.
 
Angat Dam water elevation increased by 1.34 meter compared to its previous day level of 181.64 meter.
 
Salazar said due to continuously increasing  heavy rain induced by typhoon Egay, Ipo Dam forced to conduct spilling at 11:am yesterday with initial discharge of 61cms.
 
On the other hand, Bustos Dam has been releasing a total of 52 cubic meter per second of water from its Sluice Gates 1and 2 that were raised by one meter each.
 
Meanwhile, acting governor Vice Gov. Alexis Castro on Thursday noon ordered work suspension in all (non-health) offices at the Provincial Capitol of Bulacan.
 
The cancellation is related to the continuous rain brought by Habagat caused by typhoon Egay which affecting the entire province of flood water.
 
According to Castro, the cancellation of work is to ensure the safety of all personnel of the Provincial Government of Bulacan in the flood caused by the rain.
 
Offices whose role is to deliver basic and health services, preparedness/ response to calamities and disasters and basic needs are not included in the suspension and their offices will remain open.
 
Prior to this, Malolos City Mayor Christian Natividad also canceled all works in government and private offices in the said city due to the floods caused by the rain.
 
Natividad said that almost most of the barangays in the city are submerged in flood water.
