BALER, Aurora — The Aurora Police Provincial Office is promoting ethical online governance with the launch of Project Helping Empower Responsible Online admins for Ethical Standard (HEROES).
This initiative aims to strengthen responsible online engagement and protect public trust in digital spaces.
Aurora Police Provincial Director Police Colonel Robert Petate explained that Project HEROES aims to equip social media administrators, moderators, and content creators with skills to manage online communities responsibly to prevent the spread of false information, promote verified and official updates, and establish direct coordination between police units and digital community leaders.
“This embodies the Philippine National Police’s community-based approach to both online peacekeeping and public safety in the digital era,” Petate added.
About 40 social media administrators and content creators from across Aurora attended a seminar on cyber-related offenses, including online exploitation, cyberbullying, and responsible digital practices.
Participants also learned to identify false information through the “Maging Mapanuri” Media and Information Literacy campaign of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), strengthening their role as gatekeepers of accurate content.
Petate said the collaboration will help bridge gaps between verified facts and online narratives, fostering authenticity and trust in digital spaces for the benefit of local communities.
For his part, PIA Assistant Regional Head Carlo Lorenzo Datu said ethical and informed posting plays a vital role in shaping public understanding in the digital age.
“Accurate and responsible sharing of information helps citizens make informed decisions and protects communities from the harm caused by misleading content,” Datu pressed.
Project HEROES highlights the value of informed and ethical posting to bridge gaps between verified facts and online narratives that affect public perception.
Police authorities encouraged participants to lead with integrity and mentorship to help build safer, truthful, and people-centered online communities.
