SEVERAL shanties that house some 20 families along the lateral areas of the Abacan River had been demolished recently as Super Typhoon Betty is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early morning today.
The demolition of shanties was led by the City Engineer’s Office (CEO), Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (ACDRRMO), and Angeles City Tourism Auxiliary (ACTA).
ACDRRMO Head Rudy Simeon said the informal settlers had been uprooted to give way to the road widening project of the Angeles City government along the Abacan River dike road.
Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. assured that the uprooted families will be given assistance so that they can return to their respective provinces before the onset of Typhoon Betty.
Lazatin said the City Social Welfare and Development Authority (CSWDO) is currently processing their documents so that they can be immediately sent home.
