ANGELES CITY—Competitors of the first Reyna de las Flores or Queen of Flowers here are set to don “Gawang Angeleño” gowns during the contest proper on May 20, 2023.
This is in accordance with Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr.’s directive to include in the competition the promotion of both Angeleño artistry and the city’s flower businesses through showcasing locally-designed gowns.
Apart from these, local food establishments and hotels partnered with the city government to support the event including Beauté Beanery, Niji Japanese Restaurant, Songdo Korean Restaurant, Prime City Hotel, among others.
“This event shall serve as an avenue for Angeleños to showcase their expertise in designing garments, and promote our teeming flower industry and that of our gastro tourism in Angeles City,” Lazatin said.
Lazatin further extended his gratitude to all the city’s partners in the success of the event, noting also Beautéderm President and Chief Executive Officer Rei Anicoche-Tan’s constant support, who had also served as the co-presentor of the prestigious Mutya Ning Angeles 2022 pageant and is now giving away gift certificates of the newest food fave hub in the city — Beauté Beanery.
Reyna de las Flores will be an inter-barangay competition among Angeleña beauties aged 18 to 24 years old representing each of their villages.
Inclusive in the famous ‘Santacruzan’ is MNA 2022 and Angeles City Ambassadress of Goodwill and Tourism Joanne Marie Thornley, who will grace the parade while wearing the creation of Frederick Policarpio, one of the renowned couturiers in the city.
Policarpio is known for creating sophisticated and perfectly detailed garments such as gowns and suits. Among his proud creations is the green evening gown worn by Angelique Manto, the representative of Pampanga in the Miss Universe Philippines (MUPH) 2023.
This is the first-ever Reyna de las Flores or Queen of Flowers tilt to be hosted by the city government where a grand cash prize of ₱100,000 is at stake.
Its working committee will be led by Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, together with the Angeles City Tourism Office headed by Anneleen Antonio-Sugui and organizer Rommel ‘Poklong’ Guina.
Antonio-Sugui logs a total of 30 participating barangays for the said competition which will kick off with a parade on May 20, 2023 at 5:30PM beside the Angeles Electric Corporation Building.
