MORE than 2,500 members of Lingkod Lingap sa Nayon (LLN) and mother leaders from all towns of Bulacan gathered at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in a quarterly assembly attended by Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Joel Villanueva, and Governor Daniel Fernando during the Leni-Kiko people’s rally in Bulacan on Saturday.
The conference coincides with this year’s International Women’s Month celebration sub-themed, “Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran,” which aims to recognize women’s valuable role in obtaining inclusive and sustainable development.
In the assembly of LLN members and mother leaders held in the last quarter of 2021, Gov. Fernando attributed the three awards bagged by the Provincial Government of Bulacan to the contributions made by the women leaders in their respective communities. Known as an advocate of women empowerment, VP Leni graced the event with a message that served as an inspiration to the women leaders who attended.
It was fitting as the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) encourages Filipino women to celebrate themselves this year by exercising their choices, making their voices heard, and taking the narrative by raising priority issues that matter to them and calling for concrete actions.
Heeding the call to prevent the gains on gender equality and empowerment from sliding back because of COVID-19 pandemic, the LLN members and mother leaders cheered and showed the presidential aspirant their support for her agenda, which includes the “Kalayaan sa COVID-19 Plan.”
This year, the international theme for Women’s Day celebration is “Break the Bias,” and similarly, VP Leni consistently carries the argument and belief that gender should not be the basis of one’s capacity to lead, rather, what the person has done in the service of the people.
A guideline earlier released by the PCW also stated the Women’s Month celebration as an opportune time to give Juanas the power to lay down the blueprint for future leaders regarding essential gender issues that demand immediate action and solution.
