Over 170 young state workers from various agencies, together with private sector partners across Central Luzon, collected more than 350 kilograms of non-biodegradable waste during βKapaligiRUN,β a plogging activity led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Central Luzon in celebration of the Month of the Planet Earth.
Held in support of this yearβs Earth Month theme, βOur Power, Our Planet,β the activity highlighted the power of collective action in addressing pollution and promoting environmental responsibility.
More than an ordinary fun run, KapaligiRUN combined running with the active collection of litter, turning physical activity into direct environmental action. The initiative encouraged participants to take part in a low-carbon, community-based activity that promoted both ecological stewardship and personal wellness.
DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo said the activity underscored the important role of young public servants in advancing environmental protection efforts.
βThe youth play a crucial role in shaping a sustainable future. Through activities like KapaligiRUN, we empower them to become active stewards of the environment and inspire communities to take part in protecting our natural resources,β Pablo said.
Participants who excelled during the activity were also recognized and awarded prizes.
Now on its fourth year, the plogging drive forms part of DENR Region 3βs continuing efforts to strengthen participation in environmental programs and encourage communities to adopt sustainable practices for a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient environment.
