Gatchalian Sees Summer ARAL Rollout Boosting Student Learning Recovery

Senator Win Gatchalian expects that the summer rollout of the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program will lead to improvements in learners’ proficiency.

The Department of Education (DepEd) recently announced that it will conduct summer remediation programs for struggling learners from May 6 to June 3 this year. These programs are centered on the ARAL Program.

The ARAL Program received a historic P8.96 billion allocation under the 2026 national budget, according to Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. The allocation targets to cover 6.7 million learners and engage 440,000 tutors nationwide.

“Mahalagang matiyak na tunay na maaabot ng ARAL Program ang mga mag-aaral na higit na nangangailangan ng tulong. Kapag epektibo natin itong naipatupad, magiging malaking hakbang ito sa pag-ahon natin mula sa krisis sa edukasyon,” said Gatchalian, author and sponsor of the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program (Republic Act No. 12028).

To implement the remediation program, the DepEd also committed to provide learning resources, incentives for teachers, health support, and free meals for learners.
