NLEX speed up repairs on Marilao Bridge, offers to construct new bridge

NLEX Corporation has begun expedited repair works on Marilao Overpass Bridge, which was recently struck by an overheight truck.

The Marilao Overpass Bridge is part of the road network of the Province of Bulacan.

The bridge was constructed prior to the rehabilitation of the NLEX and presently has a vertical clearance of 4.27 meters at both directions.

It is not part of the NLEX Concession, nonetheless, NLEX conducts necessary repairs on the bridge to ensure its structural integrity for the safety of the NLEX motorists.

For the past several years, NLEX has actively sought support from the government for the structural upgrading of the bridge.

In the interest of public safety, NLEX offers to construct a new and upgraded bridge to support the plans of the relevant NaKonal and Local Government agencies.

The NLEX Marilao Bridge was again damaged by a passing northbound 18-wheeler trailer container truck where one was reportedly killed while 6 more were injured on Wednesday, (June 18).

On March 19, 2025, a truck going north bound accidentally hit the bridge causing severe damage and heavy traffic to motorists.

The accident prompted NLEX Corporation to close the two lanes for repair process.

Meanwhile, following the incidents where there have already been reported fatality, Vice Gov. Alex Castro in his live post on Facebook called on the NLEX management for immediate action regarding the accidents that occurred.

Castro requested  the tollway company to double its effort, the restrictions on overheight size trucks entering the expressway to prevent a repeat of the incident.

“Our company has implemented numerous measures to enhance security and strengthen enforcement against vehicles who violate regulations,” NLEX said in a statement.

“Notwithstanding our continuing apprehension of vehicles which violate height limits, there are still vehicles which recklessly ignore the numerous signages that clearly indicate the bridge’s height limit.”

NLEX management wanted to emphasize the importance of following all traffic rules and regulations for the safety of everyone on the road.

It also says that it is a shared responsibility to protect lives, prevent accidents, and ensure that public infrastructure remains safe and functional.
