A surprise mandatory drug test for all officials and employees of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Tarlac 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) was conducted on November 11, 2024.
With assistance from the Tarlac Provincial Government and the Tarlac Drug Recovery Clinic and Drug Testing Laboratory, the drug testing initiative aligns with the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165) and the Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 13, Series of 2017.
District Engineer Neil Farala explained that the drug test adheres to DPWH Department Order No. 214, Series of 2016, which emphasizes the importance of maintaining a drug-free workplace.
Farala highlighted that this policy ensures DPWH employees are fit to perform their duties effectively while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
District employees expressed their support for the mandatory drug testing program, recognizing its role in safeguarding their health, raising awareness about the harmful effects of illegal drugs, and promoting a healthier, more effective workplace.
