In observance of the International Coastal Clean-Up Day, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Tarlac 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in cleaning the Lucong River in Concepcion.
The clean-up activity, with this year’s theme “Clean Seas for Blue Economy,” is an annual celebration held every third Saturday of September, raising awareness of ocean and waterway protection and preservation while addressing marine pollution.
In a message, District Engineer Neil Farala emphasized the importance of cleaning waterways to keep the oceans free from plastic and trash while contributing to the DPWH’s flood mitigation initiatives.
“We utilized our resources, such as our personnel and equipment, to cut the weeds and collect accumulated waste materials along the river for proper disposal.
This collaborative effort not only helps improve the river’s condition but also contributes to the overall health of our local ecosystems and enhances the community’s natural resources,” Farala added.
Other volunteers who participated in the activity included the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and stakeholders who discharge their treated water waste into the Lucong River.
